Taylor Swift was once accused of being anti-feminist for the song “Better Than Revenge”. She now adapted the lyrics for the re-release of the album originally released in 2010.

Big day for all fans of Taylor Swift, also known as “Swifties”: The singer has re-released her album “Speak Now”, originally released in 2010, under the title “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)”. Attentive listeners immediately noticed a change.

In one of her songs, Swift has slightly adjusted the lyrics, but in doing so has set a clear signal. A line in the piece “Better Than Revenge” had been criticized for a long time: the 33-year-old was accused of being misogynistic and slut-shaming.

In the original it said: “She’s not a saint and she’s not what you think / she’s an actress, whoa / She’s better known for the things that she does / on the mattress.” It’s about the ex-partner’s new girlfriend. In the newly recorded song, Swift changed the last few lines, they now read: “He was a moth to the flame / she was holding the matches.”

Taylor Swift plays seven concerts in Germany

A significant weakening of the original statement – after all, is also Taylor Swift has grown up and matured. She was only 18 when she wrote the song. At the time, it was speculated that the text was aimed at actress Camilla Belle, who was dating Swift’s ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas right after Swift.

“I was 18 when I wrote this. That’s the age at which you believe someone can actually take your boyfriend. That’s when you grow up and realize that nobody can take someone away from you if they don’t want to leave “Swift told The Guardian back in 2014.

Because of a dispute with her former label, the pop singer is re-recording her old albums so that she owns the rights. In 2021 she had already released new recordings of the albums “Fearless” and “Red”. Next year, Taylor Swift will come to Germany for a total of seven concerts in Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg and Munich.
