Coroners found 10 different substances in Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins’ body after his death. The exact cause of death is still unknown.

Colombian police have released details of an initial toxicology investigation following the death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. Traces of THC – which is found in marijuana – tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines and opioids were found in the body of the dead man, investigators said on Saturday. Hawkins, 50, was found dead in a hotel in Bogotá on Friday evening.

They did not say whether the drugs led to the musician’s death. The National Forensic Institute is continuing its medical investigations to clarify the exact circumstances, it said. The Attorney General will continue to investigate and inform about the results in due course. She has appointed a special team of prosecutors and investigators to support the investigation.

According to initial reports, Hawkins had complained of chest pains and an ambulance was called. However, by the time he arrived, Hawkins had already died. The responsible health department in Bogotá confirmed the course of events on Saturday.

Taylor Hawkins was in a coma after a heroin overdose

Hawkins has struggled with drug problems on a number of occasions in the past. In 2001, he was in a coma for two weeks after a heroin overdose. He “went too far” during a night of partying in London, he said in February 2021 Music magazine “Kerrang”. “I used to do a lot of drugs. I believed in the shitty myth ‘Live hard and fast die young’. I loved using drugs but I just got out of control for a while and it almost killed me ” the drummer confessed.

The Foo Fighters are currently on a world tour and were supposed to be performing at a music festival in Bogotá on Friday night. However, the organizers announced that there was a medical emergency and the concert had to be cancelled. After Hawkins’ death became known, fans flocked to the band’s hotel and lit candles.

It is not yet clear how the tour will continue. The Foo Fighters were originally scheduled to take the stage at the Lollapalooza Festival in São Paulo on Sunday. Singer Miley Cyrus, who also performed, tearfully recalled Taylor Hawkins. The 29-year-old said he was the first person she contacted after her plane was struck by lightning in Paraguay. She dedicated the song “Angels Like You” to Hawkins.

The Foo Fighters had planned a Germany concert in Berlin for June, and the entire tour was to end in New Zealand in December. An appearance at the Grammy Awards in early April was also planned.
