Millions of taxpayers have the chance to claim a lot of deductions from the tax office by New Year’s Eve. Regardless of whether you are an employee, pensioner or self-employed: the trick is to tweak some of the adjustments in the last few meters of the year, to bring expenditure forward – or, better yet, to postpone it until next year, as the Bavarian wage tax aid (Lohi) explains. At best, this can save hundreds of euros, says Christina Georgiadis from the United Wage Tax Aid (VLH). Anyone who now changes tax class, updates tax exemptions, spends money at the right time or not, will be rewarded by the tax office. The time required is small, the booster effect for the account is immense.
