Taufkirchen – Skatepark is modernized – District of Munich

The first project of the youth council in Taufkirchen, which was launched in early 2020, did not go well for its twelve to 25-year-old members. Her application for a barefoot path in the sports and leisure park was unanimously approved by the local council more than a year ago. But since then – nothing has happened on this matter.

But the youth council was not deterred by this and has now submitted a second application to the municipal council. It affects the skate park in the sports and leisure park, which is very popular with children and young people, as youth council member Charis Thron emphasized at the presentation in the local council. However, the approximately 25-year-old system is now outdated and has significant defects. Therefore, the youth council applied for a modernization or a new construction of the skatepark. The municipal council approved this proposal. In the next step, a concept for a new skate park is to be developed together with the young people.

In principle, the site offers the opportunity to expand the facility, said Mayor Ullrich Sander (non-party). “Now you have to see which areas can be designed in a sensible way.” According to the town hall administration, there are potholes and cracks in the floor slab of the skate park and in its surface. In addition, the wobbly halfpipe “no longer allows safe use,” it said in the meeting proposal. Although the existing foundation could continue to be used for a renovation or a new building, the administration reckons with costs of at least 50,000 euros. “The skate park would then withstand at least the next 20 years without additional costs,” according to the template.

This is probably one of the reasons why the local council voted unanimously in favor of the required modernization of the plant. According to the resolution, a sum should be set in the 2022 budget “in order to implement at least part of the concept”. And with regard to the barefoot path, Mayor Sander had good news for the youth council members present. He admitted that the project “had a few problems”. Now, however, “everything is on track,” said the town hall chief. “I think we’ll see a barefoot trail in the spring.”
