Taufkirchen – Breakfast in the Café Brandwerk – District of Munich

The old distillery once stood at the point where Münchner Strasse merges into Tölzer Strasse in Taufkirchen. Schnaps has not been distilled here for a long time, the building has given way to a new building. But the name of the modern and at the same time cozy café is intended to remind you of the former purpose of the location. Café Brandwerk has been around for five years now. Alexandra Huber and Ingo Jänike have realized their dream of running their own restaurant here, a café where drinking coffee and having breakfast are the focus.

Both worked for a long time at the Irschenberg in the café and restaurant of the Dinzler coffee roasting company. That’s where they met. The couple still feels very close to their former employer – so it’s no wonder that the cappuccino in Café Brandwerk is also prepared with Dinzler beans. The two had been looking for suitable premises for self-employment for a long time. “But it wasn’t that easy in the Rosenheim area,” says Ingo Jänike. They finally became aware of the location in Taufkirchen through Father Huber, who has been running the butcher’s shop directly opposite for many years. “My father then told all his regular customers that they had to have a coffee with us at least once,” says Alex Huber with a smile.

Apparently, most of them complied with this request, because the shop is running. Even during the week you should reserve at least for breakfast time. “We have many regular guests, and groups such as mothers’ clubs come regularly,” says the boss. She now sees her café as a “living room for the people from the area” and is pleased that everyone feels at home here, the schoolgirls sipping their hot cocoa as well as the senior citizens ordering the cream cake. On the terrace as in the spacious dining room.

For breakfast there is an extensive menu with various compositions, from the classic “Brandwerk breakfast” with rolls, eggs, ham, salami, our own fruit spread and small muesli to the “breakfast dream for two” with salmon and buffalo mozzarella caprese with rocket pesto. You can also order homemade buttermilk pancakes or homemade brioche. Very popular is “Scrambled eggs Alex” with fresh herbs, diced tomatoes, grilled avocado and| fried mushrooms. “My own recipe,” says Alexandra Huber. There was also “Fried Egg Ingo” with sweet potato rösti, but that wasn’t so successful, so they took it off the menu again. Ingo Jänike has stated: “Taufkirchen is still a village. The food shouldn’t be too fancy. But not too classic either, otherwise it’s boring.” And it is precisely this recipe that they implement with their 17-strong team at Café Brandwerk.

The Café Brandwerk, Tölzer Straße 1, in Taufkirchen can be reached by S-Bahn line 3, Taufkirchen stop. From there, bus number 241 goes to the War Memorial stop.
