On Sunday, German viewers could choose between their two favorite TV options: football and crime.

On Sunday evening (June 18), TV viewers had the choice between the Stuttgart crime thriller “Tatort: The Night of the Commissioners” in the first and the final of the Nations League on RTL. Unlike the duel between Spain and Croatia, which was only decided late in the night with a penalty shoot-out, the “crime scene” emerged as the clear winner in terms of ratings. This is shown by the official figures, determined by AGF Videoforschung in cooperation with GfK.

According to this, 6.7 million people tuned in to the last new “crime scene” before the summer break in summer temperatures. This corresponded to 27.4 percent of the total audience. With regard to the target group between 14 and 49 years of age, there were 1.18 million people (21.4 percent). The thriller from Stuttgart was sure to win the day at prime time. For the cult series, which was already able to gather well over ten million viewers in front of the screen at its peak, these figures do not represent a milestone.

Football excitement until late at night

There was no lack of excitement during the football evening on RTL, when the Spanish team secured the Nations League title against Croatia. The game saw the most spectators shortly after 11 p.m. when it went to penalties: 2.87 million people watched the final phase, around 21 percent of the total audience. In the target group it was even 25.4 percent with 0.78 million people.

Two months crime break

In addition to the “crime scene”, the “police call 110” will also say goodbye to the summer break for more than two months. ARD announced this at the end of May when asked by the news agency spot on news. “According to the current state of planning”, according to a spokeswoman, it should continue with a new first broadcast on August 28th. Which team will then be seen in the first as the opener for the new season, and whether there will be a “crime scene” or a “police call 110” at the start is not yet known.

From June 25 to August 20 inclusive, repeats of Sunday thrillers will be shown in the slot. It starts with “Tatort: Like everyone else” (Cologne) and “Police call 110: Sabine” (Rostock).
