They have been in service for more than 30 years, and next year the Munich “Tatort” investigators Ivo Batic and Franz Leitmayr will be retiring from TV. This ends an era of the crime series.

It should be over after the 100th case. The Munich “Tatort” detectives Ivo Batic and Franz Leitmayr will be retiring next year. This was announced by the producing Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation (BR) on Tuesday evening.

The broadcaster did not give an explicit reason for the departure of the popular investigative team. However, the widespread statements suggest an amicable separation. BR program department manager Bettina Ricklefs explained: “We are proud of this unique collaboration and are really looking forward to two more years! From their point of view, there should be 99 crime scenes. We were able to persuade them to complete the 100.”

Munich “crime scene” detectives have solved 93 cases so far

Actor Miroslav Nemec (Batic) said: “As ‘Tatort’ ‘chief inspectors’, Udo and I have seen off some real police colleagues and a Munich police chief in recent years when they retire. They were all a little younger than us. A good one for us Reason to say ‘Hello’ at some point.” His actor colleague Udo Wachtveitl (Leitmayr) added: “The ‘crime scene’ is the longest sloppy relationship I’ve ever had. (…) And then we looked, for over thirty years. (…) But we are too not Keith Richards and Mick Jagger, who still have to work at 80.”

Nemec and Wachtveitl solved their first case together in 1991, since then 92 have been added. The 94th part will follow on February 4th at 8:15 p.m. on the first. After the Ludwigshafen team of investigators made up of Lena Odenthal (Ulrike Folkerts), Mario Kopper (Andreas Hoppe) and Johanna Stern (Lisa Bitter), the Munich team are the longest-serving “crime scene” detectives.

According to BR, it is not yet clear who will inherit the two from 2026.
