Miroslav Nemec and Udo Wachtveitl are leaving the Munich “Tatort” as Batic and Leitmayr. But there will still be a few cases.

Next year will end a “Tatort” era. Miroslav Nemec (69) and Udo Wachtveitl (65), who have been in front of the crime camera together as Ivo Batic and Franz Leitmayr for more than three decades, are quitting. Bayerischer Rundfunk announced this on January 16th .

100 cases for investigators Batic and Leitmayr

According to the broadcaster, a total of seven cases will be seen before Nemec and Wachtveitl, who have been investigating in the roles of Commissioners Batic and Leitmayr since 1991, say goodbye. The pair’s next “crime scene”, “Das Wunderkind”, is the team’s 94th case and will be broadcast on February 4th.

This is already a “crime scene” record, but it should be expanded, according to a statement. The actors have also agreed on six more cases with the BR for this year and 2025, “before the commissioners say goodbye to the service after 35 years and 100 cases”.

No successor found yet

Bettina Ricklefs (57), BR program manager for the game film series, says that Nemec and Wachtveitl didn’t want to reach this mark at all. “From their point of view, there should be 99 crime scenes. We were able to persuade them to complete 100,” she is quoted as saying. “From today everyone can look forward to seven more cases with the incomparable team Batic and Leitmayr.” It is not yet known who will follow in the big footsteps from 2026 onwards. This should be decided calmly and will be communicated at a later date.

Nemec and Wachtveitl say goodbye

The two have “seen some real police colleagues and a Munich police chief into retirement in recent years. They were all a little younger than us. A good reason for us to also say ‘Hello’ at some point,” explains Nemec in the press release. To say goodbye, they looked for a “magic number” with a wink and 99 was the favorite. “But those responsible at the BR offered us – if we really want to go – a ’round’ number: 100. Since we couldn’t meet in the middle in this case, i.e. at 99.5, we chose the round number 100 agreed. And until then we’ll go on the hunt for murderers as usual…”

“The ‘crime scene’ is the longest messy relationship I’ve ever had,” jokes Wachtveitl. Bayerischer Rundfunk originally wanted to engage the two of them for at least six episodes. “It was far too long for us, far too confusing. They agreed on the famous ‘Now let’s take a look’, the practical essence of a recently passed away great Munich philosopher, also a Franz,” he continues to remember . “And then we watched, for over thirty years. Luckily, the viewers did too.”

But how should one say goodbye to such roles, Wachtveitl asks himself: “A dramatic death? Ivo, Franz, Miro and I live too happily for that. But we’re not Keith Richards and Mick Jagger, who are still working at 80 “We have to. Still, we’ll make it to 100, we promise. Consequences, not years, don’t worry. We’re looking forward to it.”
