Third half on the industrial wasteland. Hooligans from Saarbrücken and Lautern hit you in the face. Blood spurts, teeth are out, and in the end one is dead: Andi, the philosophy student, who always greeted us so nicely. Oh, there is, one marvels at the crime scene, first read Confucius and then tap. The investigators from Saarbrücken only had to ask their colleague Baumann (Brigitte Urhausen), who is a football fan. Didn’t the police know that colleague Heinrich (Ines Marie Westernströer) is “extremely disappointed” that her neighbor at the table in the police station didn’t tell her anything about her “secret”. In the history of crime scene investigators may have had worse secrets than going to the stadium from time to time.
But in Saarland there is obviously a lot of whispering. It is said about Inspector Schürk (Daniel Sträßer) that he knows where the money is that his father and uncle stole from a bank robbery, and so in the thriller “The Cold of the Earth” someone holds a gun to his head, to find out the hiding place. Does he know it, doesn’t he know it? Even the correct colleague, Holzer (Vladimir Burlakov), is not sure and the even more correct colleague Baumann always has to leave when someone from the team breaks the rules so that she stays clean herself. Baumann goes away a lot.
the crime scene from Saarbrücken only runs once a year, so of course a lot of material has to go into it. The four very different investigators, whose biographies have almost been forgotten since the last thriller, are not necessarily reassuring. Melanie Waelde’s screenplay calls for strong women and wants to be very diverse, so that’s worked out until everyone gets it. In the film, directed by Kerstin Polte, the two inspectors gain a lot in profile, there is the wild hooligan woman Alina with the blue hair, who yells a lot, there is the resolute barkeeper who pulls the strings in the background, a policewoman on the Office changed. There are also gay foster parents who want to adopt a girl whose father might be the dead hooligan and whose mother is definitely the woman with the blue hair. In the end, everyone just wants one thing: to be seen and respected. All the best stuff. But as the crime progresses, it becomes more and more a hidden object of good intentions. It doesn’t serve the story.
