Tariff dispute: Why the railway is suing the GDL – Economy

The new year is off to an unpleasant start for GDL boss Claus Weselsky. Deutsche Bahn, with whom the train driver unionist is currently in a heated collective bargaining dispute, is going to court – and the lawsuit is ultimately aimed at the GDL’s raison d’être. The railway wants to clarify whether the union has “lost its ability to bargain”, i.e. whether it is even allowed to negotiate collective agreements and call strikes. The group has filed a corresponding declaratory action with the Frankfurt Regional Labor Court.
