Warning strike: Dozens of flights are canceled in Frankfurt

The Corona calm at Frankfurt Airport is over. Up to 1,000 take-offs and landings take place every day. Against this background, the collective bargaining disputes are being fought harder again.
Because of a warning strike by parts of the ground staff, dozens of flights were canceled at Frankfurt Airport on Friday.
The Verdi union had called on the approximately 600 employees of the service provider Wisag to stoppage because of deadlocked collective bargaining. Instead of the 72 flights originally planned, the number of connections was reduced to 26 in discussions with customers, said a Wisag spokeswoman. Personnel from other airports and from the company’s Frankfurt headquarters were deployed for this purpose.
According to the airport operator Fraport, 970 take-offs and landings at the largest German airport were planned for Friday. Wisag only handles some of the aircraft.
Verdi speaks of “great success”
Verdi negotiator Mathias Venema described the warning strike planned until the end of operations as a great success. Wisag only maintained an emergency operation and understood that the people were serious. In the negotiations, the union is calling for a corona premium of 1500 euros net and a table increase of at least 90 euros from next year. The company had the warning strike as “completely inappropriate and disproportionate”. criticized. But the thread of the conversation has not broken off: Negotiations will continue in November, explained Venema.
