Taliban: A woman’s life in Afghanistan since taking power

The past has ruled Afghanistan for almost a year. Under Taliban rule, women are not people, but commodities. The story of a young Afghan woman who wanted more out of life.

When the Taliban come to Kabul, Tamana doesn’t know where to go. While the extremists penetrate every corner of the Afghan capital, storm the presidential palace and seize power, the young art student walks like everyone else. On the street in front of their student residence, people are running in panic, just wanting to get far away from what’s coming. “We students were only told: ‘You have to leave immediately, they are in the city!'” she recalls.

Almost a year later she did it. Tamana is one of more than two million people who have managed to escape from a country that has failed the world. A week after her arrival in Pakistan, the 24-year-old tells the star your history.
