The Tokyo Olympics are over – after many eventful, emotional days that were also unusual due to the coronavirus pandemic. More than 11,000 athletes from over 200 countries took part in 33 sports and won around 1,000 medals.

What is the sporting, but also the socio-political balance sheet? Was it right that these Summer Games took place? And how is the German performance to be assessed, which with 37 medals and ninth place is as bad as it has been since reunification? Moderator Anna Dreher speaks about this in this episode of “And now to the sport” with sports editor Volker Kreisl and Japan correspondent Thomas Hahn, who both reported on the Olympic Games for the Süddeutsche Zeitung in Tokyo.
