SZ series “Platz da”, creative places in Bavaria: train station in Bad Kötzting – Bavaria

Oliver Zilk transforms vacant buildings into dazzling stages and culturally brings the Bavarian Forest out of the province. So far he has invited musicians from more than 80 countries, bands from every continent. How does something like this work?

Oliver Zilk, blond hair, sideburns, jeans, ocher jumper, sleeves pushed up, leans against the counter. A woman knocks on the barred window of the brick house. Before that, she and her companions walked around the house, onto the platform, then back again: “Can I buy train tickets from you,” she then asks. Oliver Zilk smiles. He opens the window and politely replies that the ticket can only be obtained from the conductor on the train. That happens almost every day, says Oliver Zilk, when the women went to the train. Because there are no ticket machines in Bad Kötzting. Because the station has been history since 1995 and concerts have been taking place there since September 2016, for which people drive 100 kilometers and more to be able to experience bands from all over the world in Bad Kötzting: Culture and concerts instead of tickets and train information!
