SZ series Everything under control: Hand surgeon Alexander de Heinrich – Munich

Alexander de Heinrich grabs the 15 mm scalpel. He cuts in a semicircle along the line that the intern drew on her finger with a sterile felt-tip pen. There is no blood, he and the surgical technical assistant (OTA) squeezed that out with a blood press beforehand. The skin is pale and looks like it is made of rubber. De Heinrich sews the skin flap onto the inside of the finger with a few stitches; the bone and nerves are now exposed.
