SZ podcast: What can opposition look like in Putin’s Russia, Ms. Scherbakova? – Politics

Russian President Vladimir Putin celebrates his speech to the nation on Thursday and is campaigning for an election in two weeks that is in fact not one. A day later, the most important and best-known opposition politician in Russia, Alexei Navalny, will be buried in Moscow. He lost his life in a prison camp in the Russian Arctic Circle. Thousands pay their last respects at his funeral.

What might opposition look like in Putin’s Russia? What hope is there for a democratic Russia? Irina Scherbakova talks about this in this episode. She is a founding member of the Russian human rights organization “Memorial,” which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022.
