SZ podcast “Munich personally” with Peter Fleming – Munich

Peter Fleming knows his way around Munich nightlife. In 2003, together with the brothers David and Peter Süss, he opened the Harry Klein on the former Optimol site at Ostbahnhof. In 2010, the electro club moved to the “Feierbanane” in the city center and became one of the most well-known places in the techno scene. There hasn’t been any dancing since May 22nd. Now the club has to give way to a new hotel. After 20 years, Harry Klein is closing. How does that feel? Fleming reveals this in the current podcast episode of “Munich personally”.

As a former regular guest and later bouncer at “Ultraschall”, Fleming gained experience with the Munich club scene early on. And he shaped the city’s nightlife like no other. With the “Garry Klein” series, Harry Klein turned into a queer party world on Wednesdays. Fleming has been doing pioneering work at the “Marry Klein” festival since 2006. For a month, only women and people read as women conquer the DJ booth. The Harry Klein was a meeting place for the LGBTQ community, and diversity and awareness are particularly important to the 56-year-old. Fleming has always provided a stage for young and local artists. And he intends to continue doing so in the future.

Peter Fleming spoke to the SZ about how he went from bouncer to club operator, where and how he would like to hold his events in the future and what the city can do better to support the club scene.

For the podcast “Munich in person”, the editor of the People, Sabine Buchwald, the social editor, Jana Jöbstl, and Ulrike Heidenreich and René Hofmann, the heads of the Munich, Region and Bavaria departments, alternately meet well-known Munich residents. You go on a tour of discovery through the city or to a place that has a very special meaning for the guest.
