SZ podcast Munich personally with Désirée von Bohlen und Halbach. – Munich

Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia are increasing in our society, in which people are living longer and longer. A topic that Désirée von Bohlen und Halbach has been dealing with for many years. For a long time she worked as a volunteer at a Malteser day care center in Munich, where she was also confronted with the needs of her relatives. “These often difficult fates touched me deeply,” says the Hohenzollern princess and niece of Queen Silvia of Sweden.

Her work with the Malteser, her training as a systemic coach and the trainer training Silviahemmet, an initiative launched by her aunt, formed the basis for setting up her own foundation. Since June 2017, Désirée von Bohlen und Halbach has been supporting Desideria Care Families affected by dementia.

The woman from Munich could pursue completely different activities. Together with her husband Eckbert von Bohlen und Halbach, she belongs to the German aristocracy. If he comes together for celebrations such as weddings or baptisms, then the two are also welcome guests. A typical celebrity life would not fulfill the committed noblewoman at all. That quickly becomes clear in conversations with her. In the SZ podcast, Désirée von Bohlen und Halbach tells what it was like for her to grow up as a princess. She reports on her very personal reasons for getting involved for other people. And she talks about the great difficulties that relatives and friends of dementia patients often have.

Ulrike Heidenreich and René Hofmann, the heads of the Munich, Region and Bavaria departments, as well as social editor Jana Jöbstl and People editor Sabine Buchwald meet for the podcast of the Munich editorial team, alternating with different guests. They usually pick up their guests at their place of residence or their place of work and accompany them on their personal route. Sometimes by tram, bus, subway or S-Bahn, sometimes in a taxi or on foot.

Their conversations are about current projects and very personal plans, about topics that move the city. About your favorite book, your favorite restaurant, your favorite club. The SZ podcast team invites people who have a connection to Munich. You live in the city or you are visiting. They come from the fields of politics, gastronomy, culture, sports or media.
