A year ago, Katharina Mayer felt devastated. She had to file for bankruptcy for her company Cake Gossip. The conversion of the new premises with a café and a large bakery on the Theresienhöhe was almost complete, but the craftsmen could no longer be paid. It was a moment that Mayer will probably never forget. The idea of the cake chatter is to let senior citizens bake cakes and tarts according to their tried-and-tested recipes and then to sell them. This brings the elderly together and gives them an extra income.
What about the grandmas and grandpas who worked for me for years? How could the idea continue? Such thoughts were circling in Mayer’s head at the time. The 34-year-old was the last person to think about herself, even though she was left with a pile of debt. There is still cake gossip, the name and the original idea have remained. The large bakery Höflinger Müller bought the start-up in autumn 2022, but the founder is no longer there.
After difficult months, Katharina Mayer can now talk about what went wrong. She has both feet on the ground again and tells the podcast “Munich personally” how she is doing today. She tells how the bankruptcy came about and what helped her in the crisis. Mayer also talks about new projects and wants to encourage others to implement entrepreneurial visions despite all the risks.
