SZ podcast Munich personally: How is your family, Rachel Salamander? – Munich

Rachel Salamander has a lot to celebrate these days: She was awarded the prestigious Moses Mendelssohn Medal on January 30th for her commitment to tolerance and international understanding and against xenophobia. On the same day, the literary scholar celebrated her 75th birthday. Her literary store, a bookstore specializing in Jewish literature, has been an institution in Munich for a good 40 years.

In the SZ podcast “Munich Personally”, Rachel Salamander tells how she experienced October 7th, the day of Hamas’ attack on Israel, and how she shares the tremors with her friends and relatives who live there. It’s about anti-Semitism, which the Munich honorary citizen perceives as an expression of a democracy in crisis. And it’s about her favorite place in Munich and the restoration of the synagogue on Reichenbachstrasse. At the end, of course, the bookseller also tells us her current favorite book.

For the Munich editorial podcast, Ulrike Heidenreich and René Hofmann, the heads of the Munich, Region and Bavaria department as well as people editor Sabine Buchwald and social editor Jana Jöbstl meet alternately with different guests. They pick you up at your place of residence or work and accompany you on your personal route. Sometimes by tram, subway, sometimes in a taxi or even on foot. Or they arrange to meet at special places in the city for a conversation.

It’s about current projects and very personal plans, about topics that move the city. The SZ podcast team invites people who have a connection to Munich. You live in the city or are visiting. They come from the areas of politics, gastronomy, culture, sport or media.
