The question in all of this is not what has to happen now. The real question is: What happens, how quickly and who can pay for it all? Word has long since gotten around that something has to happen so that the economy becomes more sustainable and Germany achieves its CO₂ targets. The industry must rearrange its business models, forego fossil fuels, electric cars must replace combustion engines in the next few years, and green hydrogen must state of the art and everything will become much, much more sustainable. “We don’t have a problem of knowledge, but rather an implementation problem in Germany,” says Gunnar Groebler, head of the Salzgitter steel group at the SZ economic summit, and with that he basically settled the issue.
