8:38 am: Damascus made its decision on the principle of “reciprocity”
A source at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, quoted by the official Sana news agency, indicates that the “Syrian Arab Republic (has) decided to break off diplomatic relations with Ukraine, in accordance with the principle of reciprocity and in response to the decision of the Ukrainian government”.
Volodymyr Zelensky had indeed announced on June 29 to end diplomatic relations with Syria, after the latter recognized the independence of the pro-Russian separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
