Anna Elendt gave the German Swimming Association (DSV) its second medal at the World Championships in Budapest. The 20-year-old from Frankfurt swam in the Duna Arena over 100 meters breaststroke in second place.

In 1:05.98 minutes she only had to give way to Italian Benedetta Pilato by five hundredths of a second. It was the first World Cup individual medal by a German short sprinter on 50 and 100 meter distances since 2009. Two days earlier, Lukas Märtens had won the silver medal in the 400 meter freestyle.

Elendt started the race as the fastest in the semifinals and only secured the medal in the last few meters with a furious final sprint. Halfway through the race she was seventh.
