In Swabia, the traffic police caught a professional driver who is said to have exceeded his daily driving time by twice. The 53-year-old man tried to cover this up with a second driver card to record driving and rest times, the police announced on Thursday. He is said to have driven between 16 and 18 hours a day instead of the permitted nine hours without taking any rest periods.
On Wednesday evening, officials discovered irregularities in the driver’s driving times at a rest area on Autobahn 8 near Leipheim (Günzburg district). According to a police spokesman, truck drivers are allowed to sit behind the wheel for a maximum of another hour twice a week. The driver admitted his violation and had to pay a security deposit, it was said.
