Suzanne Somers Was Buried With Her Pair of Timberlands, and Her Husband Explains Why

When burying Suzanne Somers, Alan Hamel, her husband, chose to wear a pair of Timberland shoes. A decision at first glance strange when we know that the wardrobe of the Hollywood icon was overflowing with pumps from Manolo Blahnik. But for Alan Hamel, this pair of shoes designed for walking was exactly what his wife needed to begin her final journey.

“Suzanne never really had shoes designed for hiking in rocky terrain, so I ordered her these Timberlands. I personalized my gift by writing a few words on it that represented our life and thus made them very personal for Suzanne,” the 87-year-old widower confided to People. “Every time she wore these Timberlands, she said to me, ‘I’m wearing you, and these boots will protect me.’ » And the fact is that Suzanne Somers wore her hiking shoes every day.

A good morning walk

For almost fifty years, Suzanne Somers and Alan Hamel resided in the Hollywood Heights and eventually got into the habit of enjoying a good morning walk in the mountains to start their days. “We walked to the top of one of the mountains where there is a large flat rock in the middle of a water point,” continued Alan Hamel. By the time we got there, which took a good two hours of walking, the rock had heated up in the morning sun. We had our lunch on the rock, then took an hour’s nap before coming back down and getting to work. »

Suzanne Somers, who passed away on October 15 after a battle with breast cancer, could not have dreamed of a better pair of shoes for her final climb.
