SUV driver chases two cyclists – now he has lost his driver’s license

In NRW, a driver followed two cyclists with his SUV and put them in danger. The man even pushed one of the athletes into the ditch in the opposite lane. What he probably didn’t know: the scenes were filmed.
At first he slams past them with far too little distance, a little later he brakes them and wants to pull you off your bike, then he freaks out completely: In Siegerland in North Rhine-Westphalia, an SUV driver – you can hardly describe it otherwise – is downright hunting made on two cyclists and was filmed by one of the athletes. With consequences for the driver: The driver’s license of the 56-year-old accused was confiscated on Friday by order of the Siegen public prosecutor, writes the “Siegener Zeitung”, which first reported on the case. Accordingly, it was not the first time that the man was conspicuous in traffic.
The confiscation of the driving license was “the inevitable consequence of the serious allegations” against the man, the newspaper quoted a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office. “This person is no longer allowed to participate in traffic.”
SUV drivers push cyclists into ditches – the oncoming lane
In fact, the recording of the incident last Monday leaves one stunned. Although the SUV driver did not come across a vehicle on the country road in the Netphen area, he overtook the two athletes at high speed with far too little distance. A situation that many cyclists should be familiar with. After overtaking, however, the man brakes in the middle of the road and tries to pull one of the two off the bike.
But he can evade and drive on. The cyclists continue their tour, only a little later to be cut sharply and slowed down by the now obviously angry motorist. The driver even pushes one of the two into the ditch in the further course – mind you, that of the opposite lane, which he simply crossed beforehand. The crazy scenes in the video:
Already investigations into coercion against 56-year-olds
According to the “Siegener Zeitung”, the fact that the man is now rid of his driver’s license is also due to the 56-year-old’s previous history. Another case against the man had already been investigated in June of this year. At that time, he is said to have driven so close to a woman in his vehicle that she could only save herself by jumping to the side. According to the police, there were also insults afterwards. Trigger for the breakaway? The man had to wait because a truck wanted to turn around.
According to the report, the case even ended up with the public prosecutor’s office, but a case was closed with reference to the possible private legal action, it is said. Accordingly, the course of the incident was insufficient to further investigate the allegation of coercion. “In the light of the current incident, the process from then must certainly be assessed differently,” said the public prosecutor’s spokesman.
“I’ve never seen anything like it”
According to the “Siegener Zeitung”, the 56-year-old is being investigated for dangerous interference with road traffic and endangering road traffic. The latter can face a prison sentence of up to five years if the accused can be proven that he has endangered the lives of other people by driving in a grossly illegal and inconsiderate manner.
Marcus Mockenhaupt, one of the two cyclists, was still in the bones of the shock in an interview with RTL on Friday. He had recorded the incident with a camera attached to the handlebars. “I was afraid for my friend’s life,” said Mockenhaupt, who couldn’t understand why the SUV driver still wanted to discuss things with them. “Where do you draw the line?” Asks the athlete. The fact that one is honked or cut is inevitable. “But I’ve never seen anything like it”.
