A massive cyber attack has paralyzed several Israeli government websites. Israeli media suspect Iran. Pro-Iranian hackers have carried out similar attacks on several occasions.

A representative of the Israeli Ministry of Defense made it clear: This was the largest cyber attack in Israel’s history, he told the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. Several state websites were temporarily unavailable Monday evening, including the website of the Interior Ministry and the website of Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.

Iran suspected

According to Israeli information, the digital attack was a DDoS attack. Attackers roll over the servers they are attacking with data requests in order to paralyze them. So far it is unclear who is behind the attack – Israeli media suspect Iran.

In the past, pro-Iranian hackers have repeatedly targeted Israeli websites. The “shadow war” between Israel and Iran has recently increased in intensity – and the conflict is increasingly being carried out not only in secret.

Several media reports that hundreds of Iranian drones were destroyed in an attack last month. Iran accuses Israel of being behind it. As is so often the case, Israel does not comment on this.

Iranian missile attack on Erbil in northern Iraq
