Suspect in double murder of homeless people admits to having had a “sharp altercation” with them

He admits having had “a heated altercation” with the two men, but “denies having intended to kill them”. Arrested on Sunday, the suspect in the double murder of homeless people, whose bodies were found on November 30 in Colomars (Alpes-Maritimes), spoke in police custody, indicates the Nice prosecutor’s office, which announces the opening , Tuesday, of a judicial investigation for “voluntary homicides”.

This man of Iranian origin and holder of a residence permit, neutralized in the city center of Nice while threatening the police officers who came to arrest him with bladed weapons, had to be hospitalized before being able to answer the questions of the investigators. Facing them, he defended the thesis of a brawl that would have gone very badly, explaining that one of the two homeless “had previously injured him with an iron bar”.

Stab wounds and head trauma

At the end of the afternoon, on November 30, the bodies of the two victims were discovered in an isolated district of this town bordering Nice, lying on the ground about ten meters from the house they occupied, without right or title, recalls the prosecution in a statement released on Monday.

Traces of stab wounds were found. One of the two men had, in addition, a significant head trauma. The autopsies, scheduled by Tuesday evening, should make it possible to learn more about the course of events.

In the meantime, the suspect’s custody was extended on Monday, the prosecution said. He also specifies that the latter’s criminal record bears no trace of “any conviction”.
