The conservative Values Union association, which is headed by CDU politician Hans-Georg Maaßen, could become a new party. And it obviously also has voter potential.

According to a survey, around 15 percent of citizens can imagine a possible new party of the former President of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and CDU politician Hans-Georg Maaßen to be elected. In a survey conducted by the Insa Institute on behalf of “Junge Freiheit”, 5 percent answered that they could “definitely” imagine voting for a party from Maaßen, while ten percent could rather imagine it.

The majority of those surveyed, on the other hand, are skeptical: 62 percent said they “not at all” or “not at all” could imagine it. A fifth of survey participants answered “don’t know,” while 2 percent didn’t answer.

CDU wants to exclude Maaßen

According to Values Union boss Maaßen, the conservative Values Union wants to decide on Saturday at a general meeting in Erfurt about transferring the naming rights to a newly founded party.

Accordingly, the party could take part in the state elections in Saxony, Thuringia and Brandenburg in September. Party expulsion proceedings have been ongoing against Maaßen, who is a member of the Thuringian CDU, since the beginning of 2023.

For what was said to be a representative survey, the institute interviewed adult German citizens between January 12 and 15, 2004. In principle, surveys only reflect the opinion at the time of the survey and are not predictions of the election outcome.
