Surprising rule change for Prince Harry

Prince Harry and Prince Andrew are allowed to wear uniforms

British media had already reported in the past few days that an exception had been made for Prince Andrew and that he was allowed to appear in military uniform at the mourning events before the funeral as a “special form of honor”. That wasn’t the case for Harry – until now. According to the “Mirror”, the rules have now changed for him too.

“In a dramatic about-face, those responsible for the palace have informed Prince Harry that he can wear his military uniform at a last vigil,” said British journalist and royal expert Omid Scobie, who said he was on Twitter.

Grandchildren keep vigil for the Queen

On Saturday, Harry will join the Queen’s seven other grandchildren, including Prince William and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, for a 15-minute wake at Westminster Hall. The eight grandchildren will reportedly stand in silence next to the Queen’s coffin.

A similar ceremony had already been held by King Charles and his siblings. At the so-called “Vigil of the Princes” (“Wake of the Princes”), they stood for ten minutes with bowed heads on each of the four sides of the laid-out coffin, to which they turned their backs. Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest in Windsor Castle Chapel next Monday, September 19. With a large state funeral, the monarch will be buried there alongside her husband Prince Philip, who died in April 2021, her sister Princess Margaret, who died in 2002, and her parents. The dress code for Harry and Andrew will not affect the funeral dress code.
