Surprised by the snow – many accidents on Bavaria’s roads – Bavaria

On the third weekend in Advent, there was a crash in many places in Bavaria on slippery and snow-covered roads. Again and again, the emergency services saw summer tires on the cars.

In the Upper Bavarian district of Ebersberg, many drivers were “surprised by the sudden onset of winter in December,” the police said on Sunday. According to this, a 52-year-old left a “trail of destruction” in Oberpframmern. First he went off the road on Saturday morning and then “fell” a telephone pole with his car. After driving through a fence, his car crashed into a garage. Lucky in misfortune: the man was unharmed.

There were also some accidents on Autobahn 8 in the nearby district of Miesbach. Every time those involved drove too fast, although the road was slippery, the police reported. Because so many of them were still driving with summer tires, the officials reminded them to only drive with winter tires in wintry conditions. At first there were no injuries.

Even on Sunday there would still be widespread permafrost, said a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD). At the start of the week there will be less snow and it will be sunnier in some areas of the Free State. With minus six to minus ten degrees Celsius, Tuesday night should initially be the coldest night of this year’s winter.
