The new Superman is ready for action. This is what David Corenswet looks like as the iconic superhero.

Filming has only been going on for around two months and the film is planned for mid-2025: James Gunn (57) is already showing the new Superman. On May 6th, the director and DC Studios co-head shared a first picture of superhero actor David Corenswet (30) in full getup shared on Instagram, among other places. The actor also released the recording.

In keeping with Superman’s new cast, Corenswet is apparently symbolically putting on his boots in the picture – as if to show that he is ready for action. But not all fans seem to be necessarily happy with what is shown. There are also comments on the recording such as “We want Henry” or “The suit looks a bit big for the actor”.

Why Henry?

Corenswet is the successor to Henry Cavill (41), who previously played the “Man of Steel” in several films. Externally, Corenswet is actually reminiscent of the British star, who made fans’ hearts beat faster in the Netflix series “The Witcher”, among other things. However, at the end of 2022 it was announced that Cavill would not be returning as Superman. In the summer of 2023 it was clear that Corenswet would take over. It is his first major blockbuster leading role. Rachel Brosnahan (33), known from “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” among others, will be seen at his side as Lois Lane.

Superman’s suit looks worn and dirty in the picture that has now been published. This could indicate that Corenswet may have to face some combative challenges in the new “Superman” film. What exactly happens in the film is not yet known.

Who else is starring in “Superman”?

According to current information, the film is scheduled to be released in cinemas in summer 2025. The attached Instagram comment simply reads: “Get ready. #Superman July 11, 2025.” Also appearing on screen will be Nicholas Hoult (34) as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion (53, Guy Gardner), Skyler Gisondo (27, Jimmy Olsen), Isabela Merced (22, Hawkgirl), Anthony Carrigan ( 41, Metamorpho) and Edi Gathegi (45, Mister Terrific).

Gunn announced at the end of February that filming had begun on the new film – supposedly coincidentally on Superman’s birthday. At the same time, he announced that the film, which was once conceived as “Superman: Legacy,” would now simply be released as “Superman.”
