Holger Britzius, 47, prefers to watch second division football. On Super Bowl Sunday, as the second Sunday with public holiday status is called in North America, he still opens his bar in Maxvorstadt for nightly public viewing. In North America, the Super Bowl is the US counterpart to the German concept of street sweeping: an average of 90 million North Americans (with a peak of 140 million) watch the final game of the American football league NFL. And Britzius also has good numbers: the weekend with the highest sales in his pub was not for the World Cup or the DFB Cup, but for the NFL game in Munich in 2022.
