Suffering from a “rare neurological disorder”, Celine Dion cancels part of her tour

In a video posted on social networks this Thursday, the star announces the cancellation of all his concerts in 2023. His Parisian concerts scheduled for September are maintained.

New cancellations… and new concerns about Celine Dion’s health. After having already canceled the dates of her European tour three times since 2020, the singer announces this Thursday new concert cancellations due to health problems.

In a video message posted on her social networks, Celine Dion explains that she is finally ready to talk about her health problems and announces that she was recently diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder causing “spasms” and difficulties on the his vocal cords.

This disorder called Stiff-person syndrome (SPS), in English “affects around 1 person in 1 million”, specifies the singer in her video and is characterized in particular by progressive muscular rigidity.

“We don’t yet know everything about this rare disease, but we now know that it is the cause of the muscle spasms from which I suffer,” she continues.

Parisian dates maintained

Celine Dion specifies that this disorder affects her everyday life on many levels. “I sometimes have a lot of difficulty walking and I can’t always use my vocal cords to sing as I would like,” she explains with emotion.

Given her state of health, the star says she will not be “ready” to resume her tour of Europe from February 2023. The star’s team specifies that eight concerts planned for this summer – including the highly anticipated performance at the Vieilles Charrues festival in Carhaix (Finistère) – are cancelled. The Vieilles Charrues organization has already announced the reimbursement of more than 55,000 tickets.

On the other hand, the production ensures that the other concerts announced between August 26 and October 4, 2023 are maintained – including the Parisian dates of his tour (September 1, 2, 5, 6, 9 and 10, 2023).

A “continual fight” against the disease

Already in 2018, Celine Dion had been forced to postpone several shows in Las Vegas due to her health. At the time, the singer invoked an irritation of the throat and a disorder in the middle ear.

But since 2021, the interpreter of It’s All Coming Back to Me Now, frequently postponed his concerts because of “violent muscle spasms”. In a video published last April to announce the second postponement of her European tour, Celine Dion once again evoked this painful and persistent neurological disorder.

“My doctors follow me. I receive treatments. But I still have muscle spasms. Recovery takes much longer than I thought,” she said in April.

The Quebec artist, however, ensures that she is followed by an “excellent team of doctors” and trains daily in order to “gain strength and endurance” in order to be able to go back on stage again.

And the singer to conclude: “I train every day But I must admit that it is a continual fight. It is my children who give me the courage and the hope to continue. To find you, I have not I have no choice but to focus on my health and I’m hopeful that I’m on the right track.
