Stutthof trial: Why this guilty verdict can’t be the end – Opinion

The 97-year-old former secretary in the Stutthof concentration camp receives a suspended sentence. And with that, one of the last, maybe even the last, NS trials came to an end. So have the judiciary and society done their duty?

Surely many of the survivors would have liked to hear more than these dry words. The accused said exactly three sentences in the process: “I’m sorry for everything that happened. I regret that I was in Stutthof at the time. That’s all I can say.” On Tuesday, the 97-year-old former secretary at the Stutthof concentration camp was sentenced to a suspended sentence of two years for being an accessory to the murder of thousands of prisoners. This guilty verdict is good and right.
