Colleague accused him of sexual assault: police inspector in Stuttgart acquitted
The Stuttgart Regional Court has acquitted a police officer who a colleague had accused of sexual assault. He is the country’s highest-ranking official, so the prosecution accused him of having abused the balance of power.
Baden-Württemberg’s highest-ranking police officer has been acquitted in a trial of allegations of sexual assault. That was decided by the district court of Stuttgart on Friday. According to the indictment, in November 2021 the suspended police inspector is said to have coerced a police officer who was in the selection process for the higher police service to engage in sexual activity, thereby exploiting the officer’s dependence.
Disciplinary proceedings are still under way against the police inspector
Prosecutors had asked for a suspended prison sentence of one year and three months for the 50-year-old accused. The defense argued the intimacies were consensual.
Parts of the trial took place behind closed doors. Regardless of the outcome of the process, disciplinary proceedings will be conducted against the police inspector. The process has already led to a committee of inquiry in the Stuttgart state parliament, which examined the promotion practice in Baden-Württemberg police investigated.
