Stupor! Jürgen Klopp announces his departure at the end of the season

Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool, it’s over. Or rather, it’s almost over. The German coach, in office since 2015, announced this Friday via the club media that he would leave the Reds, with whom he won everything, at the end of the season.

Visibly moved, Klopp (56) spoke in several videos to discuss this choice. “I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people,” said the former Mainz and Dortmund technician. But of course I can explain it, or at least try to explain it. »

After ensuring that he loved “absolutely everything” about the club, the city, the supporters, the team and its management, the German revealed that he was “running out of energy”. “Obviously, I don’t have any problems at the moment. I’m doing great but I know I can’t do this job over and over and over and over again. »

An incredible track record

“I owe you the truth, and it is the truth,” concluded Klopp, who revealed that his leaders had been aware of this decision since November 2023. The club indicates that Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, the coaches assistants, will also leave their position at the end of the season.

Under the orders of the charismatic manager, the Reds have played in three Champions League finals (2018, 2019, 2022) and won the second. They also won an English championship title (2020), which the club had been waiting for thirty years, a Club World Cup and a UEFA Super Cup in 2019, an England Cup, a Football Cup. League and a Community Shield in 2022.

Liverpool currently lead the English championship and remain in the race for a superb quadruple with the Cup, the Europa League and the League Cup, of which Virgil Van Dijk and his teammates will play the final on February 25 against Chelsea.
