According to leading economists, Germany’s welfare state is in need of restructuring. In a study for the Federal Ministry of Labor, a group of renowned researchers came to the conclusion that additional work is not or hardly worth it for many recipients of state support. “The welfare state has totally absurd effects. The problem is the combination of the many state aids,” says the lead author of the study, the Munich economics professor Andreas Peichl, of the SZ. “We actually need fundamental reform.” The previously unpublished study is the South German newspaper before.
