Infected people report a new omicron symptom
Sore throat, fever, cough and a lack of sense of taste are classic side effects of a corona infection. According to a new study from Great Britain, the Omicron variant can also trigger a previously unknown symptom in infected people.
An infection with the new omicron variant of the coronavirus can apparently trigger loss of appetite in addition to the already known symptoms. As the English newspaper “Mirror” reports, this was found out by scientists working at the ZOE Covid Symptom Study when they compared symptom data of those who tested positive with data from early October, when the delta variant was still prevalent.
The people who recently participated were either confirmed to have the omicron variant or were likely to be infected with it. Sick sufferers reported loss of appetite as a symptom they experienced. Participants also spoke of a kind of clouding of consciousness (“brain fog”) while they had the virus.
The study does not mention how many people suffered from loss of appetite. The researchers believe, however, that the new symptom could help identify a possible infection if the patient does not otherwise have any symptoms. According to the study, the likelihood of a loss of taste or smell is now significantly lower compared to the early phase of the pandemic. According to the information, only 50 percent of the infected subjects experienced the three classic corona symptoms, namely fever, cough and loss of the sense of smell or taste.
The study also found that the most common symptoms of the Omicron variant do not differ significantly from those of the Delta variant. These include a runny nose, headache, night sweats, tiredness, sneezing and a sore throat.
