Student city of Munich-Freimann: fire protection in dormitories is inadequate – Munich

Internal documents from the Studentenwerk show that the protection against fire and smoke was apparently not good in some dormitories. Around 1,500 apartments are now empty, most of them probably for years.

The Munich student union has a problem. And students who are looking for an affordable place to stay, too. In the student town in Freimann, the Stusta, around 1500 apartments are currently empty; a good 1200 of them probably for years to come. One reason for the vacancy is the renovation backlog, which is accompanied by problems with fire protection. According to experts, it should have been defective in several dormitories, which is evident from internal documents of the student union. Some of the analyzes sound alarming. However, the Studentenwerk assures that “at no time” was there a “considerable danger” for residents. “The well-being” of the residents is “always the top priority”.
