According to a source close to the family, confirmed to Nice morning by the Nice public prosecutor’s office, the 75-year-old pedestrian who was violently hit by a triathlete this Sunday, during the Nice Ironman, has died. She was hit by an athlete in full effort despite a course entirely marked out by the organizers of the event.
The shock took place in the Nice airport area. Medically treated on site by Samu 06, this person was transferred in serious condition to Pasteur II hospital. The cyclist participating in the triathlon was also injured in the collision. He suffered in particular from facial trauma.
A homicide investigation opened
Following the death of this septuagenarian: an investigation into manslaughter was opened, Maud Marty, deputy public prosecutor, told the Alpes-Maritimes regional daily on Monday.
The organizers of Ironman France explained on Sunday that the pedestrian “crossed the road despite contrary instructions given by the safety teams, which caused a serious collision with an amateur athlete taking part in the race”. For its part, the family of the deceased disputes the organizers’ version.
