Strong Korean tensions, Goncourt arrives and bitter victory for PSG

Did you miss the news this early morning? We’ve put together a recap to help you see things more clearly.

Tension is at its height around the Korean peninsula. Pyongyang launched three new projectiles on Thursday, including an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) which apparently failed, the day after a record salvo of fire. This show of force comes at a time when South Korea and the United States are conducting the largest air exercises in their history in the region. The two allies also decided on Thursday to extend these exercises “in view of recent provocations from the North”.

Like every year, the literary world will have their eyes glued to a lunch at the Drouant restaurant in Paris. This Thursday, during this unchanging meal for more than a century, the Goncourt jurors, seven men and three women, will decide who wrote the best French novel of the year. The selection was narrowed down to four authors: two French women, Brigitte Giraud and Cloé Korman, a Haitian, Makenzy Orcel and an Italian-Swiss, Giuliano da Empoli. With The Mage of the Kremlin (Gallimard), the latter in favor of literary journalists.

The curse continues for PSG in the Champions League. Wednesday evening, Paris played who wins loses. Despite their victory in Turin against Juventus (1-2), the capital club finished second in their group, weighed down by Benfica’s big victory on the lawn of Maccabi Haifa (1-6). The bad magic of Paris has struck again: for the first time in history two leaders of the same group are perfectly equal in terms of points, goals scored, goals conceded and, inevitably, in goal average. Once again, PSG inaugurates statistics on the European scene. And finally, to decide between the two teams, it was necessary to draw on the goals scored on the outside.
