There is no way out of Hesse: there will be a large standstill on the rails and in the air on Tuesday due to the strike. The nationwide 24-hour strike Train driver in long-distance and local transport began as planned at night. Passengers have had to expect significant restrictions again since 2 a.m. The industrial dispute in freight transport has been going on since Monday evening.

600 flight cancellations in Frankfurt

And as soon as the ground staff’s warning strike ended, there was a state of emergency again at Frankfurt Airport: The UFO cabin union called on the approximately 19,000 flight attendants at Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cityline to go on strike on Tuesday and Wednesday. All departures from Frankfurt will be on strike from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday and all departures from Munich on Wednesday, as UFO announced.

Lufthansa assumes that a total of 1,000 flights will be canceled in Frankfurt and Munich on the two days, including 600 in Frankfurt. 70,000 passengers are affected there. In Munich, the strike forces 50,000 to reschedule.

Bahn fails with urgent application to court

Deutsche Bahn wanted to legally prevent the next GDL strike at short notice, but failed with an urgent application before the Frankfurt Labor Court. The railway plans to appeal the ruling to the Hessian State Labor Court, as the company announced that evening. According to the company, a decision on this will be made on Tuesday.

The lead time of just 22 hours was “much too short,” the railway explained. This is a “blatant imposition” for passengers. The wave strikes endangered supplies in the country. Despite the short lead time, DB is trying to offer a basic offer again. Due to the limited offering, DB advises reserving a seat early when traveling on long-distance trains.

Rebookings and free cancellations

All passengers who bought a ticket for a trip on March 12 up to and including March 10 and would like to postpone it due to the GDL strike can use their ticket at a later date. The train connection has therefore been lifted. The ticket is valid for the journey to the original destination, even with a changed route.

Seat reservations can be canceled free of charge. In addition, as part of a special gesture of goodwill, long-distance transport passengers also have the opportunity to bring forward their journey and travel immediately.
