Strikers block the border with Spain, traffic on the A9 is cut

About 200 people have been blocking since 8:30 a.m. this Thursday morning, the Boulou toll, on the border with Spain. “Traffic is cut off on the A9 motorway in both directions”, specifies Vinci Autoroutes. The exit is compulsory at the Perpignan sud interchange (n° 42) for motorists coming from Montpellier and entry prohibited. Entrances are prohibited in both directions of traffic at the Le Boulou interchange (n° 43) and exits prohibited in the direction of Spain.

Force Ouvrière is at the origin of this blockage and was joined in its approach by the inter-union. The operation is part of the fight against pension reform. “We want to materialize this France at a standstill,” said Jérôme Capdevielle, secretary general of Force Ouvrière in the Pyrénées-Orientales. “The objective is to block and then to come into contact with motorists. We will contact them to explain to them that they too are actors in the fight against this pension reform.

At 10 am, the gendarmes began to dislodge the demonstrators without violence, but a plug of several kilometers formed on each side of the toll barrier and will take several hours to be absorbed.
