Strike at the SNCF: what will be the main axes most affected for the Christmas weekend?

Two out of three trains should run on average this weekend in France. Regional disparities are however to be expected due to the strike movement at the SNCF.

Will you be able to join your family in peace for the end of year celebrations? Due to a strike at the SNCF scheduled for this week, the weekend of Christmas and the New Yearseveral disturbances are to be expected.

strike notices, December 23 to 26 and January 30 to 2, are motivated by trade unions to demand better working conditions and higher wages. This Tuesday, December 20, the executives of the SNCF have thus detailed which would be the main axes affected by the disturbances.

Regional disparities

At the national level, nearly two out of three trains will run normally, said Christophe Fanichet, the CEO, according to the strike declarations he has been able to receive to date.

“A strike for the Christmas holidays, I can’t understand it”, the French need a vacation, to find their loved ones, they need to breathe. This is frankly not the time,” he said yesterday from Montparnasse station in Paris.

However, this average for the whole of the national territory presents some disparities.

axis Atlantic-Mediterranean will see two out of three TGVs running.

There will be one in two trains on the lines of North.

Three out of four trains on the lines of ballast.

Finally, three Ouigos out of four should circulate. The lines province-province will be the most affected with only one out of two trains.

“The whole company is mobilized to ensure maximum service”, further assured Christophe Fanichet who has already apologized for the disruptions to come.

Saturday and Sunday, no more disruption

According to Alain Krakovitch, TGV-Intercités director of the railway company, traffic conditions will be particularly degraded on Saturday and Sunday at a time when nearly 800,000 travelers are expected in the stations. Monday traffic should return to a “normal” level.

SNCF executives, on the other hand, could not give details on the forecasts for the New Year.
