The federal government has created the legal framework for faster deportations. Now it is the turn of the states to carry out the returns, according to the FDP and SPD.
Politicians from the FDP and SPD are calling on the federal states to consistently implement the law passed by the Bundestag for simplified deportations of rejected asylum seekers.
Klingbeil: “The countries now have the options”
SPD leader Lars Klingbeil said in the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” that the states now have the options – they must use them. “The state must function when it comes to repatriating people who cannot stay with us.”
Klingbeil also pointed out that Germany needs to do better in accepting and integrating migrants. “We need skilled workers from abroad so that we remain a strong country,” said the SPD leader.
Djir-Sarai: “The federal government alone cannot solve the problem”
FDP General Secretary Djir-Sarai also emphasizes the responsibility of the federal states in implementing deportations.
“The federal government will not be able to solve the problem on its own. Now that the legal conditions for more effective returns have been created, the states must now use them specifically and carry out more deportations,” he told the “Rheinische Post”.
Extended detention pending deportation
The law for stricter deportation regulations was passed by the Bundestag in mid-January. The traffic light coalition had previously argued about this for a long time.
Among other things, the law provides for extended detention options for those subject to deportation. This is intended to prevent deportations from failing at the last moment. The police also have more rights during searches.
