Even after decades, one can only speculate as to who is behind Banksy. The secrets and the often spectacular works make use of many exhibitions. “Unauthorized” is now also the name in Berlin.

Banksy is one of the most famous unknowns. The sprayed works of the British artist, who works under a pseudonym, can now be found on walls in countless international locations. A posting on a Banksy page on the Internet, for example, is seen as recognition of the authenticity of the graffiti works, which are often created using stencils.

The numerous exhibitions on Banksy’s work often show photos of the most famous works, sometimes of high quality and associated with better-known names. There are also screen prints, spray works on canvas or cardboard, and other Banksy originals that end up in private collections or museums.

Exhibition is “unauthorized”

From Friday onwards, an exhibition “Banksy – A Vandal Turned Idol” with works by the artist, of which almost 20 are originals, can be seen in Berlin, which is expressly marked as “unauthorised”.

An installation shows a studio that might look like Banksy’s. Some photos or videos show a male subject working on graffiti that was later attributed to Banksy.

Thematically, the exhibition follows important themes of the artist. There are around 100 chapters dedicated to discussions about consumption, death and the environment, as well as Banksy’s views on power and religion, love and hope.
