It’s been 25 years since “Sex And The City” had women around the world drinking Cosmopolitan. To mark the anniversary, the second season of the follow-up series “And Just Like That…” is coming out.

The new season of “And Just Like That” begins with a statement: Charlotte grabs her husband Harry, Miranda grabs her new love Che – and Carrie grabs the attractive producer of her podcast. Sex is back in the universe of “Sex And The City”.

The two new episodes of the follow-up series about the New York women’s clique, which can be seen via Sky since Thursday, are less about Carrie’s great grief after the death of her great love Big, and more about how things will continue with her and without him.

And as she finds her way back to her New York single self, the series rediscovers the humor and lightheartedness that fans loved about her in the ’00s.

The rough scenario: Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) sleeps with her attractive producer every Thursday and is irritated when he suddenly wants to meet her on a Tuesday as well.

A life as an appendage

Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) has largely recovered from her alcohol addiction and is living (a stab in the heart for any fan of the old, successful lawyer Miranda) a life as an appendage to comedy shooting star Che (Sara Ramirez) in Los Angeles. Charlotte (Kristin Davis) goes to war against an online retailer through which her daughter sold her pink Chanel dress.

And above it all is the big, glamorous Met Gala, New York’s premier celebrity event, to which Carrie, Charlotte and their new friends Seema (Sarita Choudhury) and Lisa (Nicole Ari Parker) are invited. You are New York high society.

A good reason for the series to indulge in pictures of expensive shoes and even more expensive clothes. That may not be significant, certainly not politically and of course the world has completely different worries than the clothes of rich New Yorkers – but such a short trip is still fun.

And the sequel doesn’t make it quite as easy as “Sex And The City” either. A scene in which Lisa’s husband can’t get a cab in New York 2023 because he’s black is given space, as is the argument between Seema and her hairdresser about her alleged inability to relate.

Everything falls into place on the second attempt

In the first season, “And Just Like That…” wanted to free itself from the predecessor, which in parts hadn’t aged very well, who was far too white by today’s television standards, far too straight, far too clichéd and altogether just far too little woke

It all came together better on the second try and seemed less stressed. This is mainly due to the fact that the new characters get a little more depth and no longer just seem like black or non-binary alibi figures that are only there so that the series no longer seems so out of date.

The story now goes back to what made the “Sex And The City” universe 25 years ago when the original launched: sex, humor, speed and great women.

The fact that Kim Cattrall will be added as Samantha in the further course of the season – at least in a guest appearance – should further increase the anticipation of series fans for the further episodes after the promising start. And then Carrie’s ex Aiden (John Corbett) is said to be back. Finally.
