Netflix launches subscription with ads

The competition is already at the start. Now Netflix also offers a subscription with advertising breaks, which is at least discounted. However, users then have to do without some things.
As announced, Netflix offers a discounted basic subscription with advertising. The tariff will cost 4.99 euros per month in Germany and will be available from November 3rd, said Netflix manager Greg Peters on Thursday. The advertising-financed model will be introduced in a total of twelve countries, including France, Great Britain and the USA. The new model has no effect on the previous subscriptions. “The basic subscription with ads complements our existing ad-free basic, standard and premium subscription levels.”
At launch, commercials will be 15 or 30 seconds long and run during or before the series and movies. With an average of four to five minutes of advertising per hour, customers have to let themselves be sprinkled with the tariff. “A limited number of films and series will not be available for licensing reasons – but we are working on it,” said the streaming service. The model with advertising also has no download function. The subscription can be changed or canceled at any time.
So far there are no commercials on Netflix. The previous basic tariff costs 7.99 euros per month. The standard tariff costs 12.99 euros per month. The premium subscription costs 17.99 euros.
Netflix is obviously reacting to the growing number of competitors on the German streaming market while consumers are declining in their spending mood. Amazon, for example, is at the start with the advertising-financed offer Freevee. Films and series are shown there at no additional cost, but with commercial breaks. After the USA and Great Britain, Germany is the third country in which Amazon has placed the offer.
