Two years ago, Neil Young had his music withdrawn from Spotify. Now the musician is returning to the streaming service – even if the cause of his dissatisfaction still exists.

Around two years later Neil Young (78) took his music down from Spotify, the Canadian folk rock star is back on the streaming platform. Spotify will now be “a home for my music” again, Young said on his website.

At the beginning of 2022, the musician withdrew his music on the grounds that he did not want to be present on a platform that spreads misinformation about the coronavirus – including in the podcast of US presenter Joe Rogan. Spotify publicly regretted Young’s decision at the time, but complied.

Young wrote that other platforms now also have such misinformation and podcasts in their program. If he were to take his music off all of these platforms, his fans would have significantly less access to it, which is why he is now returning to Spotify – even if he also doesn’t agree with what he considers to be their poor sound quality. Spotify did not initially comment on the decision. Young is one of the most successful musicians of his generation.
